This private twelve-day journey crosses Morocco from north to south, starting on the Strait of Gibraltar in Tangier and ending in Marrakech. It is built around depth rather than speed: four two-night stays give you full days in Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara and Marrakech instead of a new hotel every night.
After a guided day in Tangier, you head into the Rif for two nights in blue Chefchaouen. The route continues to Roman Volubilis and the imperial city of Meknes, with a night at a wine estate in the hills — Château Roslane when available — before two nights in Fes and a full day with a private guide in its medieval medina.
From Fes, cross the Middle Atlas to Erg Chebbi for two nights in a private desert camp, with a sunset camel ride and a full day exploring the Sahara by 4×4. The journey west passes the Todra Gorge and the Valley of Roses to a kasbah night in the Skoura oasis, then Aït Ben Haddou, the Ounila Valley and Telouet on the way over the High Atlas to Marrakech.

Day by Day
12-Day Itinerary from Tangier to Marrakech
Your driver meets you at Tangier airport or the ferry port and takes you to a boutique riad in the medina. Settle in, then take an evening walk to the Petit Socco or up to the kasbah for views across the Strait of Gibraltar to Spain.
Explore Tangier with a private guide: the kasbah and its museum, the lanes of the medina, the Grand Socco and the old international quarters where writers and artists once gathered. Drive out to Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean.
In the afternoon, head south-east into the green hills of the Rif Mountains and arrive in Chefchaouen in time to see the blue medina in the late light.
A day with no fixed schedule, to enjoy Chefchaouen as it deserves. Wander the blue lanes and stairways, sit in the Outa el Hammam square beside the red-walled kasbah, and visit weavers and small artisan workshops.
For views over the town and the valley, hike up to the Spanish Mosque or further into the hills above. The rest of the day is yours for cafés, rooftops and slow wandering.
Leave the Rif Mountains for Volubilis, the finest Roman site in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With a local guide, explore its floor mosaics, the basilica, the Capitol and the triumphal arch among the olive groves.
Pass through Meknes for a first look at its monumental gates, then continue to your wine estate in the hills — Château Roslane when available. Enjoy the vineyards at sunset, with an optional tasting of Morocco's best-known wines, and dinner at the estate.
After a quiet morning at the estate, return to Meknes for a guided visit with a local expert: the Bab Mansour gate, the royal granaries and stables, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail and the lanes of the medina.
Continue to Fes in the afternoon and check in to a traditional riad in the old medina.
Spend the whole day in Fes el-Bali with a licensed local guide. Follow the medina lanes to the Bou Inania and Attarine madrasas, the Karaouine and the fondouks, and through the artisan quarters of the coppersmiths, weavers and leather workers to the Chouara tanneries.
Along the way, meet craftspeople at work and taste local specialities in the souks. Lunch is included in the medina.
Climb into the Middle Atlas past Ifrane and through the cedar forests, where you may see Barbary macaques. Beyond Midelt, the landscape turns to desert as you cross the Tizi n'Talghemt pass and stop at the panoramic viewpoint over the Ziz Valley.
Continue through Erfoud and Rissani to the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Ride a camel into the sand for the sunset — or take a 4×4 if you prefer — and arrive at your private camp with en-suite tents for dinner and traditional music under the stars.
After breakfast, explore the country around Erg Chebbi by 4×4. Depending on the season, share tea with a nomadic family, visit a desert village and fossil sites, and meet local people. Lunch is medfouna — the "Berber pizza" baked in the sand — or a meal with a local family.
The afternoon is for the dunes: sandboarding, a walk to a high crest or simply watching the colours change at sunset. Quad biking and buggies are available at extra cost.
Leave the Sahara through Rissani and head west to Tinghir to walk into the Todra Gorge and its palm grove. Continue through Boumalne Dades and the Valley of Roses around Kelaat M'Gouna.
In the late afternoon, reach the Skoura oasis, a green world of palms, villages and old kasbahs, and check in to a characterful kasbah lodge among the trees.
Start with a morning walk in the oasis, with an optional visit to Kasbah Amridil. Drive past Ouarzazate to Aït Ben Haddou, the UNESCO-listed fortified village, and explore its lanes up to the granary.
Take the quieter Ounila Valley road past red-earth villages to the Kasbah of Telouet, then cross the High Atlas and descend to Marrakech, arriving at your riad in the evening.
Explore Marrakech with a knowledgeable local guide: the historic medina, its palaces and madrasas, the souks and artisan quarters, and quieter neighbourhoods most visitors miss. The Bahia Palace, the Ben Youssef Madrasa and the Majorelle Garden can all be included.
The afternoon is free for shopping, a hammam, a rooftop café or Jemaa el-Fna at dusk.
Enjoy breakfast and some free time depending on your flight. Your driver then takes you to Marrakech Menara Airport for your journey home.
