Agadir sits closer to the western Sahara than any other Moroccan gateway city — which means shorter driving days, more time in the dunes, and a route through landscapes most itineraries never reach.

Our Agadir departures head south through Taroudant and the Anti-Atlas to Foum Zguid, the quiet approach to Erg Chigaga — Morocco's tallest and least-visited dune field. From there, tours either loop back to Agadir along the Draa Valley or continue overland to Marrakech, crossing Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou and the High Atlas along the way.

Every route below runs with a private 4x4 and driver-guide, bivouac or kasbah accommodation, and a fixed departure from your Agadir riad or the airport. No two tours follow the same road twice.

Erg Chigaga is roughly 6-7 hours' drive from Agadir via Taroudant, Tata and Foum Zguid. It's the closest major dune field to Agadir, which is why our shortest desert tour is only 3 days.
The 3-day tour gives you one night at the dune camp with a sunset and sunrise in the desert. The 4-day version adds a second night deeper in the erg, with time for the seasonal Lake Iriqui and visits to nomad families along the way.
They're different experiences. Erg Chigaga has taller dunes and far fewer visitors since it's only reachable by 4x4. Merzouga is more developed and easier to combine with a Marrakech-Fes route. Our 7-day tour actually visits both.
The 3-day, 4-day and 8-day tours are round trips that start and end in Agadir. The 5-day and 7-day tours are one-way, ending in Marrakech — useful if that's your next stop or your flight home.

An air-conditioned 4x4 (Toyota Land Cruiser or similar), required for the unpaved desert track into Erg Chigaga. Smaller groups may travel by comfortable minivan on the paved sections of longer itineraries.
