This private two-week tour is the complete Morocco journey: it starts on the Strait of Gibraltar in Tangier and takes in the northern coast, the Rif Mountains, four imperial cities, the Sahara, the gorges and kasbahs of the south and the Atlantic port of Essaouira. With five two-night stops, it balances long road days with time to settle in.
The first days follow the north: whitewashed Asilah by the Atlantic, the Andalusian medina of Tetouan and two nights in blue Chefchaouen. From there you reach the capital, Rabat, then visit Roman Volubilis and imperial Meknes on the way to Fes, where a local guide leads you through its medieval medina, the Karaouine and the Chouara tannery.
From Fes, cross the Middle Atlas to the dunes of Erg Chebbi for a sunset camel trek, a night at a desert camp and a day with nomads and Gnaoua musicians. The road west passes the Todra Gorge, the Dades Valley and Aït Ben Haddou, then crosses the High Atlas to Marrakech. The journey ends with two relaxed days by the ocean in Essaouira.

Day by Day
14-Day Itinerary from Tangier to Marrakech & Essaouira
Your driver meets you at Tangier airport, the ferry port or your hotel. After a short look at Tangier, follow the Atlantic coast south to Asilah, a small fishing town of whitewashed houses and blue shutters inside Portuguese ramparts.
Stroll through the medina, where the walls are covered in murals painted each year during the town's arts festival, walk along the ramparts to the Krikia viewpoint and watch the sun set over the ocean.
Head inland to Tetouan, whose white medina was founded by refugees from Andalusia and is listed by UNESCO. Walk through its lanes of craftsmen and the square in front of the Royal Palace, with a clear Spanish-Andalusian feel.
Continue into the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen and check in. Spend the late afternoon getting a first feel for its blue-washed streets.
Explore Chefchaouen with a local guide: the stairways and blue doors of the medina, the Outa el Hammam square and the kasbah with its garden and small museum.
In the afternoon, walk up to the Spanish Mosque on the hill for the best view of the town and the Rif Mountains at sunset.
Drive south-west through the Rif foothills and the fertile Gharb plain to Rabat, Morocco's capital on the Atlantic.
With a local guide, visit the Hassan Tower, the unfinished 12th-century minaret, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, then walk through the white-and-blue lanes of the Kasbah of the Oudayas and its Andalusian Gardens overlooking the river mouth.
Head inland to Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman site in Morocco, and walk among its floor mosaics, basilica and triumphal arch in the olive-covered hills.
Continue to Meknes, the imperial city of Sultan Moulay Ismail, to see the monumental Bab Mansour gate and the vast royal stables, then drive on to Fes for the night.
Spend the day with a licensed local guide in Fes el-Bali, the largest car-free medieval medina in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the Karaouine, founded in 859 and often called the oldest university in the world, the Bou Inania Madrasa and the souks of the artisans.
Finish at the Chouara tannery, watching the dyers at work in the stone vats from a terrace above.
Cross the Middle Atlas to Ifrane, the alpine-style town known as the "Switzerland of Morocco", and walk in the cedar forest near Azrou, home to wild Barbary macaques. After lunch in Midelt, follow the Ziz Valley south towards the desert.
At the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes, meet your camels and ride into the sand for the sunset. Arrive at the camp for dinner, Berber drums around the fire and a night under the stars.
Wake early for the sunrise over the dunes, then return for breakfast. Spend the day exploring around Erg Chebbi: visit a nomadic family in their tent to share tea and learn about desert life, and see the village of Khamlia, where descendants of sub-Saharan families perform traditional Gnaoua music.
Enjoy a relaxed afternoon around the dunes before the night at a hotel in Merzouga.
Visit the historic market town of Rissani, then head west through the palm groves of Tinjdad to Tinghir. Walk through the Todra Gorge, where the canyon walls rise up to 300 metres above a clear stream.
Continue along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the Dades Valley, with its unusual rock formations and winding road, for the night.
Drive through the Valley of Roses and past Ouarzazate to Aït Ben Haddou, Morocco's most famous fortified village and a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has appeared in many films. Walk through its earthen lanes to the granary at the top.
In the afternoon, cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n'Tichka pass, with wide mountain views, and descend to Marrakech in the evening.
With a local guide, visit the Koutoubia Mosque and its gardens, the carved and painted rooms of the Bahia Palace and the Saadian Tombs, then explore the souks of the medina.
In the evening, head to Jemaa el-Fnaa square as the food stalls, musicians and storytellers bring it to life.
Drive west across the plains, past argan trees and women's argan oil cooperatives, to Essaouira on the Atlantic coast.
Explore the harbour, where the blue fishing boats come in, the whitewashed medina and the sea-facing ramparts, and enjoy the ocean views and cooler sea breeze.
A slower day by the sea. Walk along the Skala de la Ville ramparts and their old cannons, watch the fish auctions at the port, and visit the thuya-wood workshops and art galleries of the medina with a local guide.
The afternoon is free for the long sandy beach, a seafood lunch at the port or simply relaxing.
After breakfast, your driver takes you back across the plains to Marrakech airport in time for your flight home.
